dear nicholas –
this has been a very busy month for you. starting off with your turning 7! your uncle luke was getting married the next day so we celebrated your birthday in chicago this year. you were very excited to be going back to chicago for your birthday and to see where you were born. we had fun being tourists in a city we once called home. we went with uncle chris to the shedd aquarium and ate hog dogs from a stand in the park. luke and alison had arranged for you to have a birthday cake at the rehearsal dinner on the night of your birthday. everyone there sang happy birthday to you while you stood next to alison, you had the biggest grin on your face. it was priceless.
you and your brothers were ring bearers for the wedding. you all looked very handsome wearing tuxedos – and you were very excited that you got to hold the wedding rings. you and your brothers did a great job standing up with the wedding party. you made mommy very proud that day. every person that came up to either me or your daddy had nothing but compliments to give you and your brothers. we had a great time visiting family and catching up with old friends.
you finished off an amazing baseball season this month. you loved playing baseball, it was awesome watching you play and see you get better and better every game. by the end of the season you were getting hits constantly. i was so proud of you, and loved seeing you get excited about the game as well. your daddy even helped coach a few games, he loved being able to be out there with you and liam while playing ball. you can’t wait for next season. i too am looking forward to what next season will hold for you.
we had jungle jim come for your 7th birthday party this year- and that was fun! jungle jim brought all sorts of animals and reptiles with him. your favorite part was getting to hold the snakes. you had NO fear standing up and grabbing ahold of a 15lb boa consticter. you were so proud of yourself – your friends all had a great time as well.
i guess i can’t leave out your visit to the emergency room this month. i told you it has been a busy month for you! you fell at recess one day at school and busted open your chin. i took you to the ER – you were very brave. the nurses kept talking about how great you were doing and how brave you were being. you ended up with 5 stitches on your chin. i think you were secretly excited to have a matching battle wound like daddy. i would be ok if we didn’t have to do that again – it is not easy seeing your child be hurt and in pain.
i am so proud of the boy you have become nicholas. you are a great brother, friend and son. mommy could not have gotten a better son than you. i love that you still ask me to snuggle on the couch with you, or to help you get dressed – because i can do it faster, or when something happens- you want me to pray with you. you also love to hear me tell stories about when you were ‘little’, you like to hear the funny things you use to say or do when you were quinn’s age. your favorite story that i think i have told more than ten times is when you were 3 years old. you were in your room for quiet time and had pooped in your pants. i opened the door to find your naked except for socks on and there was poop on the floor. i asked you how you got poop on your sock and you said to me ‘i kicked it!’ you giggle every time i tell that story. i love the memories we have made!
i love you sweet boy with all my heart-
mommy
