dear liam –
you are 5 years old! can you believe it? you were so excited to wake up the morning of your birthday because you were 5! the first words out of your mouth that day were -‘i am 5, i am 5’, and what an amazing 5 year old you are! when i told you on your birthday to please stop growing up – that mommy wanted to keep you little. you said to me ‘it’s ok mommy, we can still cuddle.’ you better believe i going to hold you to your word.
you have grown into such a handsome young boy. people often stop me when we are out to tell me what a handsome boy you are and how you have such beautiful hair. one day i was talking with your great aunt peggy about who you got your curly hair from and she mentioned that her sister elizabeth (your grandma in heaven) had curly hair like that – i felt the angels smiling down on me that day! someday you will understand why that is such an amazing thing, you never met grandma elizabeth -but she had a way of making her presence known to your mommy and daddy by blessing you with such beautiful curly hair. i hope you will always leave your hair long enough for those curls to show through.
this is your last year of pre-school and next year you will be off to kindergarten. the idea of you starting kindergarten tugs at my heart strings – i so enjoy our days together when you don’t have school. i am not ready for you to be gone all day, every day. you are doing well in pre-school, i think you would rather be out playing or riding your bike but you are a good student and do well. you are excited that quinn is at your school now – and you have been such a great big brother to him as he starts his journey into preschool.
your daddy taught you how to ride your bike without training wheels this past weekend – and there is not a moment that goes by that you don’t want to go outside to ride. i think your daddy is priming you for triathlons as he will often have you get off your bike and then run around the track a few times. you are a good runner – it seems to come naturally to you. i am excited to see where this journey will take you in a few years.
liam, you have such a sweet, kind spirit – you are the peacemaker in the family. you have a tough job being both a little brother and a big bother – you handle it well. you love to take on that role as the big brother to quinn – to help him do things, or talk sweet to him when he is upset. you also look up to nicholas as i will often watch you look at him for guidance and direction when you are unsure of something. God could not have given us a better middle son – you are simply amazing and i am so very thankful he has put you in our lives.
i love you with all my heart liam – and i hope there is not a day that goes that i don’t stop and tell you just how special you are to me.
love –
mommy
